Thin Film Coating

CIP can offer extensive optical coating facilities for high specification coatings on a variety of substrates. A wide range of coatings are available from broad band anti-reflection coatings to < 50GHz filters for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) applications.Thorough analysis of layers is available both during and post coating.

Experience and Capabilities

The optical coating team at CIP has been manufacturing high specification coatings for over 20 years and helped develop many commercially available complex coating designs and systems. Examples of this are Facet Coatings
for semiconductor devices such as Lasers, SOAs and EAMs as well as DWDM filters for Telecom applications.

The work area includes 2 state of the art optical coating plants. The performance of these units is enhanced by the following:

  • Plasma Ion Assisted deposition of oxides
  • High speed drive (high layer uniformity)
  • Optical monitoring (high resolution system)

Current capabilities

  • Visible and Near IR complex coating designs:
  • Ultra narrow band filters (sub-nanometre)
  • Ultra low anti-reflection coatings (<10e4)
  • Expertise on specialist facet coatings for:

    - Optoelectronic devices
    - Optical fibre coatings

Design and Measurements

  • Proprietary and commercial software design packages calculations (including Magneto-Optical layer performance)
  • Measurement of N K D of optical thin films and substrates (400-1700nm)
  • Film X-Y raster scan
  • Reflectance and Transmission measurements over a wide spectrum
  • Consultancy service
